Over the last several years, a constant topic is being brought up in media discussions. Where do we see the media in the future, 20 or 30 years from now? I’ve heard this in several classes, panel discussions and everyone has opposing view points. We can see that technology appears to be the way of the future, almost everything is available in digital copies.
Print has newspapers available online with some stories left out and others enhanced with video and podcasts to help add to the experience. Television and radio have even moved to the digital side with video and audio podcasting for the audience’s convenience.
So that brings me back to my original question: Where do I see media in 20 –even 30 years from now?
I see it definitely being available online but I can’t see radio or newspapers becoming obselete due to convenience and the audience’s preference. Newspapers are portable whereas it’s more difficult to take a lap top on a bus in order to read the news. The radio is convenient for those that like to listen to the news while driving, reading and watching the t.v aren’t exactly safe practices on the road.
Not everyone has access to the technology to place everything online, plus some people particularly the older generations prefer to read the paper in it’s original form and listen to the radio for news rather than having to go online to access convenient up to the minute material.
So, I don’t see the media going away any time soon but I do see it growing technology wise. I certainly hope these forms of media aren’t obselete at least not in my lifetime.
